Why We Love Her

Since kicking off her career, she has not once held back when it comes to going after what she wants and building a successful career in finance. Whilst establishing herself over the past 28 years as an expert in her field, Elaine says she has taken to fashion as her way of self-expression. Keeping abreast with fashion trends, she has defined her own style and identity which she says has evolved with time. Elaine describes her style as fashion forward while still remaining sophisticated and elegant. She tells us about her preferred styles and cuts as she browses Covetella’s collection of dresses. A few dress trials later, she goes with our signature black halter flounce dress which she pulls off with poise and grandeur.

Elaine has been dubbed most stylish woman by Tatler Singapore and Harpers Bazaar Sg over the past few years.

What are your hobbies and interests ?
“I love spending time with my family, that includes my 3 fur kids (Tin-Tin, Miu Miu & Zo Zo), my beautiful god-daughter Ashleigh and of course travelling the world and fast cars “

What 3 things does anyone starting in your industry need to know? Why do you think this is important for them to know?
“Listen, Listen, Listen ! A good listening ear is crucial to better understand clients’ wealth creation process, their needs, their risk profile, and their investment preferences, in order to recommend appropriate wealth management solutions and to build meaningful relationships.”

If you could give your younger self advice, what would you tell yourself when you were first starting out? What might you have done differently?
“I wouldn't change anything… I would still pursue my career with similar passion and perseverance.”

What is your #1 key to success and why do you think it has been so vital to you?
“You must enjoy doing what you do! Most of us probably spend more time at work than at home, so you must love your work. That's how after 28 years in this industry, I still go to work at 7 am every morning, and reply my Blackberry till midnight. When you love what you do, you do it with zeal and passion, and even when the going gets tough, you will stay positive. Failure is not the opposite of success, but part of it “

In your opinion who or what has influenced you the most? How and why do you think so?
Our parents... When young, my parents have inculcated in me & my sister the values of kindness and generosity, hard work and humility, also the courage, drive and passion to pursue our chosen paths. These have been the values that carried us through our school days and still guide us in our working lives today.

What has been your biggest success? How did you achieve it? How did it feel?
“I am proud to say that I am an excellent multi-tasker. Although my work gives me confidence and independence, I am foremost a wife, a daughter, a sister, a ‘fur-mom’ to my 3 beautiful dogs and god-mother to baby Ashleigh. And I strive my best to spend as much time with them as possible. It’s all about time management. Back in 2015, I was honored to be the World’s first and only female President of the Ferrari Owners’ Club, organizing some 50 events for our 280 members. Juggling so many roles and succeeding in them give me great joy and pride.”

What does a typical workday or week look like for you?
“I work typically 12-hour weekdays, starting at seven in the morning, and I remain available on my Blackberry till midnight. On weekends, I help out at my hubby’s aesthetic clinic, managing the clinic’s accounts, website and marketing campaign.”

What surprising lessons have you learned along the way ?
“Be strong enough to stand alone, smart enough to know when you need help, brave enough to ask for it.”

How do you balance your work with your personal life?
“It's a fine balance… but having a supportive family helps… My hubby, Weng has been a crucial part of my success. Weng is my best friend, soulmate and confidante who stands by me and allows me to live my dreams. Understanding parents with unconditional love and support, and a sister with a big heart that is always there for me (we talk to each other many times a day). These are my support structures that give me my roots and my wings, and they are the reason why I can pursue my career and indulge in my passion”

Work hard and don't worry about making mistakes. I love playing with new ideas and never think of it as a waste of time.
